From May 21st to may 25th, 2019 we organized and participated in 2nd AGES/EAGE/CEI Conference called "Geosciences Applied to Solve Humanitarian Problems Worldwide" where we also held two International Student's Workshops, first being "Pupin Meets Nobel" and second being "Coaching Workshop".

 

Co-organizers of the events were the multy-year AGES partners: CEI (Central European Initiatives) and EAGE (European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers), under the auspice of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia and the Serbia Convention Bureau. Local partners at Kopaonik were (as in September 2016): Hotel Kraljevi čardaci, National Park Kopaonik, Tourist Organization Raška and Ski Resorts of Serbia.

Experts from: Australia, Canada, Italy, Sweden, Turkey, Hungary, BiH, Croatia, Macedonia and Serbia, as well as students from: Poland, Romania, Hungary, Croatia, BiH and Serbia participated in the events actively. There were also than 36 students attending the conference where we shared the ideas and opinions related to the cause of solving humanitarian problems worldwide.

 

During the Technical Program, 16 invited lectures were presented, as well as 18 students’ papers. Further, Italian professor, Raffaele Persico, presented two two-hours lectures: Case studies of interest for cultural heritage in Italy and Malta and Standard elaborations of the GPR signal by means of the Reflexw code.

 

During the Brainstorming session, two interesting lectures (with discussion) were presented:

 

 Vladica Pavlović (Brus, Kopaonik, Serbia): Examples of good practice related to more efficient local and regional socio-economic development in municipalities in the Kopaonik mountain region

 

 Leonardo Hara (Toronto, Canada): Is Canada a promised land? Special students’ session was interesting for the audience, with lectures dedicated to the famous scientists from Serbia, Jovan Cvijić and Mihajlo Pupin, but also to the NEXUS initiative (Water, Energy and Food) and to Precious and Semi – Precious Gemstones.

 

After presentations of the Student Sections activities, rich Social program was organized: 4-hour Walking tour through the National Park, Conquering the Pančićev vrh (2,017 m) and Karaoke party in the beer tavern of the Hotel. At the top of Kopaonik, Pančićev vrh, we announced the EAGE International Conference and Technical Exhibition Near-Surface Geoscience 2020, which is held in September 2020 in Belgrade, Serbia.
